Robotics
Being part of the Robotics Club has been one of the most meaningful parts of my school life. Without it, I may never have discovered my passion for coding, or the thrill of pushing myself under the pressure of competition.

November to March 2026
Competing in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge was one of the most exciting and rewarding competitions I have ever experienced. The night before the Finals, our robot and all nine attachments were found completely dismantled and the thumbdrive containing our latest code was missing. Four months of work gone, overnight.
I spent the night rebuilding and recoding the robot with a teammate -- all from memory -- so that we could compete the next day. I was so proud that we not only managed to compete, but we also improved our scores on the actual day of the competition, coming in 15th out of 83 finalists!
Mr Martin Tan, my Principal, later wrote me a testimonial for demonstrating leadership under pressure during this experience.
January to May 2025
This was my first national robotics competition, where I learnt that I could work under pressure. I also learnt the importance of journalling as a way to remember and not repeat my mistakes, so I can return the following year more prepared!
It was during this experience where I first realised how much I truly enjoyed competing. I was very happy that despite the challenge, we kept on improving on our build and eventually won 3rd place in the competition! The surge of adrenaline challenged me to think on my feet, adapt quickly, and trust my instincts. Even though I was grouped with teammates I did not know at all, we learnt to rely on one another, solve problems under pressure, and stay focused, especially when we felt completely unprepared.
